Information, perception and relationship

It has been like 4 months since my last post here in my blog and here is a post I hope can break the silence for a while. Is there someone out there really follow my blog? I doubt it because you can’t find anything flashy here except my ramblings towards this world of which I love to observe.

4 months of not writing anything here sure does makes my writing skills go rusty but the matter that I want to present all of you this time is something which I have given my thought for about 6 months but now I dare to write it here because I have confirm it to be true.

Relationships or bonds of which we people have towards ourselves, between ourselves are heavily rely on information of the other party that we currently have. Information affects relationship in such a way that if “A” have more positive information about “B”, “A” can be considered to like “B”. The opposite also true in this case where if you have more bad information on other person, you’re bound to dislike that person. This really makes me half agree with a Malay idiom “Tak kenal maka tak cinta” [You won’t love it if you don’t know it] and totally agree with a Muslim scholar who said;

If you love someone, love that person adequately. If you hate someone, hate that person adequately. For the person whom you love can become the person whom you hate and the person whom you hate may become the person whom you love.

Even though I totally agree with the above quote but the quote still doesn’t tell us how we can change our perception towards another person in question. The answer is simple, information. Information affects judgment and perception that we have towards something.

Like human relationship, the more we know someone the more we love/hate that someone in which this depends on what information that we have of that person throughout those years. If all are positive information, we are bound to like that person and vice versa.

Information is an element of which I considered to be acquisitive or accumulative in nature of which it cannot be decreased but increasing in time. This means that the quote above [again] remain true to itself that we can change our perception from hate to love or vice versa in time or when there is additional information acquired.

If we want to like a person that we are currently hate, we have to add more positive information about that person then sooner or later we begin to like that person. The opposite is also true when we currently like a person but negative rumors linger around that person and we eventually hate that person.

This topic does not stop on human relationship alone but also hold true to any kind of relationship such as political or business world. Example for political is during election when each candidates will try to win the support of the people by fulfilling the promises the candidate made before or being a role model for the people. That is why some candidate will act in front of the people the way the people desire just to build his/her image.

In business world, information is really a critical element where each corporations always building their image or brands aggressively. That is why there is war in advertisements and innovations where each corporation will try to get as many market shares as possible by introducing more attractive model etc. this act of putting more advertisements and introducing new models or innovations are an act of adding more positive information of the corporation. No corporations in the world want to have a bad image of them that is why they will try to combat every bad rumor from spreading and some even resort to lobbying the media from spreading it because once it spreads, the reputation crumbles and the corporation may go bankrupt due to its share price go downhill.

Ok, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading.
